I'm a practical philosopher.
• Put myself through 6 years of university without student loans, government grants, scholarships, or parent support, and graduated with a surplus.
• Am completely debt free, including two houses.
• In a three-year period I went from homelessness - living in a van - to owning two completely paid for homes and two paid for vehicles (one a recreational vehicle) without mortgages or bank loans.
• Had a credit score, in 2013, of 842 (out of 850), which is now declining (832 in December 2015) because I pay off all credit cards immediately, usually before the bill comes in, pay utilities as soon as the bill arrives, and use only 1% of my available credit.
• Have been self-employed since 1977.
• Raised $30,000 from private investors for a book publishing project (pre-Internet) as the result of a 15 minute radio interview.
• Started multiple services businesses with less than $50 each, sometimes with only the cost of a domain name.
• Negotiated speaking contracts for high-profile authors (Margaret Atwood, for one), often doubling their high fees and gaining them additional perqs.
• Member in good standing: National Writers Union.
• Acted as Financial Advocate as well as Health Advocate, and then Power of Attorney for father with dementia and cancer.
• Acted as Executrix for both mother's and father's estates.
• Knows how to get myself and clients booked on national TV as guest experts... and get paid to appear as a commentator.
